XL550
Development Status
Preclinical evaluation of XL550 is ongoing.
Description
XL550 is a novel small-molecule antagonist the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), a nuclear hormone receptor implicated in a variety of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. MR antagonists are used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure due to their vascular protective effects. Recent studies have also shown beneficial effects of adding MR antagonists to the treatment regimen in Type II diabetic patients with nephropathy. XL550 is a non-steroidal, selective, and potent MR antagonist that has the potential to offer advantages over existing therapies for the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, and end organ protection due to vascular damage.
XL550 is being evaluated by Daiichi-Sankyo. Daiichi-Sankyo is responsible for all preclinical and clinical development, and commercialization activities for XL550.
