Diversity, equity & inclusion

We can only truly live out our values: Be Exceptional, Excel for Patients and Exceed Together, when we create a collaborative, welcoming environment that celebrates our similarities and recognizes our differences. As we create and sustain a diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI)-centric culture, we actively celebrate diverse cultures and support our employees.

Our employees lead the way

Exelixis’ DEI Advisory Committee is a select group of self-nominated employees dedicated to creating a welcoming work environment where all employees feel valued, seen and respected. The Committee’s main objectives are to establish antidiscrimination practices at Exelixis, provide feedback on DEI initiatives and foster a sense of belonging among our employees.

We encourage active participation in our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which are led by and open to all employees. These grassroots communities enhance our employee experience and encourage discussions about meaningful topics.

Currently, we have eight ERGs, including:

We connect with our community through our commitment to DEI

Through our DEI speaker series, we invite thought leaders to speak with employees on a range of topics. Featured speakers have included a passionate cancer patient advocate, a startup investor who has spent the past 15 years championing for women’s success in building fulfilling businesses and careers, a global activist for the success and empowerment of working parents and adult caregivers, an award-winning journalist and member of the LGBTQ+ community and a first-generation Mexican American astronaut.

We support our colleagues by participating in community-building opportunities and cultural celebrations throughout the year, like honoring cultural awareness months and holidays.

Join our journey to create a diverse, collaborative workforce

Exelixis is in a fantastic growth phase in so many aspects of the company, and we want to make sure all employees feel welcomed, appreciated and heard, and that they feel their contributions are meaningful. Our DEI efforts will help us develop ideas, programs and creative ways to connect all employees to Exelixis’ mission.

Jason Atwater

Director DE&I, Learning and Development

I became a leader of our employee resource group, Women of Exelixis (WE), because I have a drive for getting things done, and I am not afraid to use my voice to inspire change. By maintaining high expectations for inclusion and diverse representation, I hope to help shift the narrative for future generations of women.

Pippa Stewart

Director of Compliance Operations

Diversity is at its best when inclusion happens and everyone feels safe to be who they are in an environment that accepts them. For me, curiosity and a yearning to understand other perspectives is truly when diversity thrives.
